From the beginning, we have endeavored to lead our Bakersfield 40 day prayer vigils in a way which focused on the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the only solution to abortion. From our LifeVigil prayer booklets, our yard signs, our vigil radio broadcasts, our Bible reading schedule, to the Bibles we handed out on the sidewalks, we hoped to always maintain the focus on our Lord and Savior, and the Word of God.
As we welcomed all Bible-believing Christians who would agree to abide by our simple statement of peace, we were blessed with many opportunities to labor alongside those who worship and pray in ways which differ from our own traditions. Even if we sometimes struggled with our friends’ prayers, we considered this diversity to be a reflection of the beauty of the Body of Christ, while we prayed for God to guide us all into closer alignment with His will.
Regrettably, we have only received a fraction of the commitments necessary to plan another continuous 40 day vigil, and having found it necessary to vacate the former LifeHouse building at 25th and H, plans for this year’s vigil became even more challenging than usual. Nevertheless, our local Catholic friends (primarily from Our Lady of Guadalupe) are moving forward with plans to schedule prayers outside the FPA abortion chamber at 25th & H during most of the hours from February 26 through April 5. To join in this effort, contact Lupita Morelos at 661-703-6936.
FPA is no longer the only abortion chamber in Bakersfield, as Planned Parenthood (2633 16th St.) is reportedly now committing surgical abortions in addition to chemical abortions. So we encourage any Christians who find it difficult to join in the Catholic prayer schedule to make serious efforts to pray and intercede at one of these local abortion chambers at any time of the day or night.
We remain hopeful that God will motivate more people to commit to help with a future vigil (at FPA and/or Planned Parenthood), so that we will have future opportunities to unite all Christians in more continuous 40 day prayer vigils outside our local abortion chambers, as we continue to believe that one day God will remove the scourge of abortion from Bakersfield (and our state and nation) forever.
