Life Chain: a solemn assembly of prayer
This coming Sunday October 21 at 2 pm, Christians from various congregations in the Bakersfield area will gather on Highway 178 downtown for 90 minutes of prayer and witness during the annual Bakersfield Life Chain (volunteers: register here).
“Life Chain is a solemn assembly and a prayerful one,” emphasized Life Chain founder Royce Dunn. “It is a time to seek God’s forgiveness and to allow Him to minister to our hearts and minds as we stand on our local sidewalk to minister against the gravest evil to afflict our nation.” Ministries such as the national 40 Days for Life movement started as local Life Chains, so this is not intended to be just one brief event, but to be an important opportunity with long term potential to mobilize Christians to end abortion.
The Life Chain is also designed as a model of Christian unity, amidst the diverse cultures embodied by various participating congregations.
This also serves as an opportunity to motivate more people to participate in ongoing prayer and ministry throughout the year, such as future 40 day LifeVigils, so please encourage new people to join you at the Life Chain, sharing this page on social media and offering rides to others who worship with you.
If a specific location has been announced at your worship service, please be sure to start at that location (otherwise, start at the corner of 24th and H). But please don’t stay there — avoid standing in groups, because this tends to result in conversations which distract from the Life Chain’s purpose. To facilitate more of a prayer focus and to maximize the public impact of this gathering, we ask Life Chain participants to space themselves at least 30 feet apart whenever possible (of course, parents should remain near their young children at all times).
To maintain a spirit of unity across over two miles of sidewalks, worship music will be available to all (contact us for details using the form below). Please consider bringing a portable radio or a boom box, or parking your vehicle in an area where others can hear the radio. For details on how to listen to our Life Chain program on your radio or phone, look at the LifeVigil page on Facebook on Sunday afternoon.
We still need many Life Chain volunteers who will help us maximize the effectiveness of this important prayer effort. Please complete the form below to tell us how you can help, or contact Tim at 661-412-2291.
